UML Chair Oli Inspects Fire-Damaged Residence in Balkot

Balkot: The chair of CPN (UML), KP Sharma Oli, visited his residence in Balkot today to assess the damage inflicted by a fire during the Gen-Z movements on September 8 and 9. During his inspection, Chairman Oli examined various structures within the compound, including the library and quarters for security personnel. He remarked that the property, though used as his residence, was government-owned and had been donated to the state by his wife, Radhika Shakya, following her career at Nepal Rastra Bank.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Chairman Oli described the destruction of historical documents, rare books, and significant items as a detriment to the state itself. He characterized the acts of vandalism, looting, and arson carried out under the guise of the Gen-Z movement as part of a grave conspiracy. Oli emphasized that the destruction of specific residences, along with missiles for cases, historical documents from Singha Durbar, and other properties, was a ‘terrible conspiracy against Nepal.’ He called for stringent action against those responsible and advocated for an unbiased investigation into the incident.

Oli’s wife, Radhika Shakya, who accompanied him during the visit, expressed their decision to leave the burned house as it is, refraining from taking any immediate action. The monitoring team during the inspection included UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet, leaders Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, Bishal Bhattarai, UML district vice-chair Kiran Thapa, along with other UML leaders and supporters.
