New York:The United Nations General Assembly has unanimously approved a proposal to extend the preparation period for Nepal and Bangladesh to graduate from the least developed country (LDC) status until November 24, 2029.
According to National News Agency RSS, this decision was made during the UN’s 81st General Assembly meeting on Thursday, as reported by the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York.
This extension provides Nepal with additional time to implement necessary structural and institutional reforms effectively before being upgraded from the LDC list. Nepal has expressed its commitment to utilizing this period to enhance production capacity, strengthen institutions, and pursue economic and social transformation.
The UN General Assembly’s decision is expected to aid Nepal in achieving the goal of graduating from LDC status in a manner that is easy, sustainable, and irreversible.
