Unity Should Not Be Rifted Over July Proclamation: Salahuddin

Dhaka: BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today urged all to remain alert so that the unity created against fascism is not rifted and any confusion is not created centering the ‘July proclamation’. He made the call while talking to journalists after emerging from an all-party meeting with the Chief Adviser at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, representatives of different political parties joined the meeting to discuss the ‘July Declaration’. Salahuddin Ahmed stated that discussions have been held with all political parties regarding the July declaration, with leaders providing various suggestions. He queried the interim government about the necessity of the July Declaration five and a half months after the July uprising, emphasizing the need to determine its political, historical, and legal importance.

Salahuddin emphasized that suggestions and opinions were provided on various issues, including state governance, and stressed the importance of keeping an eye on the declaration to maintain unity. He stated that if the declaration becomes a political or historical document, the BNP would respect it. Furthermore, Salahuddin expressed BNP’s desire for the inclusion of all parties involved in the July revolution in the formulation of the declaration.

Highlighting the importance of national unity against fascism, Salahuddin remarked that the unity forged through the July-August mass uprising must evolve into mass unity. He suggested integrating this unity into political culture and noted that maintaining such unity while advancing the nation is the biggest challenge.

When asked if the national election issue was discussed in the meeting, Salahuddin confirmed that there was no discussion on the matter.
