Birgunj: Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has said that Nepal’s hospitals are making strides in ophthalmic treatment services. Inaugurating the golden jubilee celebration of Ramkumar Mahaveer Prasad Kedia Eye Hospital here today, he said the Hospital’s making a leap in eye treatment was a matter of pride not only for the Madhes Province, but also for the entire country.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Vice President Yadav emphasized that the Kedia Eye Hospital has been providing quality healthcare services not only to the people of Madhes but also to those from Bagmati and neighbouring country, India. He acknowledged the hospital’s efforts over the last 50 years to provide easy access to eye patients and urged the institution to continue offering affordable and quality services in the future.
During the event, Vice President Yadav also laid the foundation stone of the ‘vision pillar’ and the new proposed building of the hospital. These developments form part of the hospital’s golden jubilee celebrations, marking its 50 years of service in ophthalmic care.
Rajesh Kumar Kedia, chairman of Ramkumar Mahaveer Prasad Kedia Eye Hospital, highlighted the hospital’s growth from a five-bed facility in Loharpatti, Birgunj, to a 175-bed institution. “In the last 50 years, the Hospital has treated more than 2.7 million patients. During this period, we have carried out about 400,000 eye surgeries. Of these, 182,000 patients have been provided with free eye surgeries. In the coming days, we announce to set up an eye bank and also make the hospital’s services even better,” he stated.
Prof Dr Sunu Dulal was honoured with the Late Hiralal Kedia Honour during the event, receiving a cash prize of Rs 251,151.
