Davos: World Bank managing director Anna Bjerde has reaffirmed the international financial institution’s support for Bangladesh’s Interim Government, focusing on the nation’s rebuilding efforts. Bjerde expressed this commitment during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the World Economic Forum’s annual gathering in Davos, as reported by Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder to BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bjerde assured Professor Yunus of the World Bank’s readiness to provide necessary assistance, stating, “I want to express our support. Count on us for whatever support you want.” The World Bank’s managing director for operations emphasized the bank’s eagerness to extend its support to Bangladesh in the latter half of the year.
The conversation between Bjerde and Yunus touched on several topics, including the July uprising, the Interim Government’s reform initiatives, and the current state of Bangladesh’s economy. The meeting was also attended by Lamiya Morshed, the SDG coordinator for the Bangladesh government, and Tareq Ariful Islam, the country’s permanent representative to Geneva.
