World Soil Day Observed with Focus on Soil Care and Management.


Kathmandu: The World Soil Day is being observed today with a series of programs and events focusing on soil care and management. This year’s theme, ‘Caring of soils: measures, monitor and manage’, underscores the importance of sustainable soil management practices globally.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the 68th United Nations General Assembly, upon the recommendation of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, proclaimed December 5 as World Soil Day in 2013. In Nepal, the observance of this day officially began in 2014.

In Nepal, the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), the Department of Agriculture, the National Soil Science Research Centre, the Nepal Soil Society, and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center are collaboratively organizing events to mark the day. These organizations emphasize the significance of soil health and the implementation of effective measures to monitor and manage soil resources sustainably.
