Dhaka: A total of 168 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel walked out of four separate jails in Dhaka and Gazipur districts on bail in the explosive case linked to the 2009 BDR carnage. ‘We released 127 BGB members from prisons at Kashimpur, Gazipur and 41 from Dhaka Central Jail, Keraniganj today,’ AIG Development of Prisons Headquarter MD. Jannat-Ul-Farhad told BSS today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the 168 BGB personnel were among 178 who had been granted bail in the explosive case related to the BDR mutiny. Senior Jail Super of Kashimpur High Security Central Jail Gazipur, Muhammad Abdullah Al-Mamun, stated that 13 BGB personnel were released from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail, 25 from Kashimpur Central Jail-1, and 89 from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 after verifying their bail documents. The release process from these jails commenced at 10 am and concluded around 2:30 pm.
Deputy Jailer Abu Eusuf of Dhaka Central Jail confirmed that 41 BGB personnel were released from the facility today. The BDR mutiny, which occurred on February 25-26, 2009, at Pilkhana Headquarters, resulted in the death of 74 people, including 57 army officials. Following the incident, two separate cases were filed: one for murder and another for explosives.
