41st Death Anniversary of General MAG Osmani Commemorated in Sylhet


Sylhet: The 41st death anniversary of General MAG Osmani, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces during the War of Liberation, was observed here today. To mark the occasion, the 17th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army paid tributes to Osmani by placing wreaths at his grave at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Dargah in the morning.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Major General A. S. M. Ridwanur Rahman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 17th Infantry Division and Sylhet Area Commander, led the tribute to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces during the War of Liberation. Following the wreath-laying, a contingent of the Bangladesh Army presented a guard of honor to Osmani.



A special prayer was also held on the premises, seeking eternal peace for General Osmani’s departed soul and the welfare of the country and its people. The event saw the participation of senior military officers from the Sylhet area, members of various military ranks, and local dignitaries.



General MAG Osmani was born in Sunamganj, Assam Province during the British era on September 1, 1918, and passed away in London on February 16, 1984. He received his education in Assam and Sylhet before graduating from Aligarh Muslim University in India.
