Bara: Of the total target population in Bara and Parsa districts, 71 percent have been administered vaccines against cholera.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, Chief of the Child Health and Immunisation Service Section under the Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services, reported that as of today, 723,836 people out of the target of 1,001,860 in both districts have been vaccinated. The immunization drive was launched in response to a recent cholera outbreak in the two districts and the increased risk of further infection.
A total of 456,778 people have been vaccinated in Parsa since the campaign began on October 12, and 267,058 in Bara, where the campaign started on October 13.
The vaccine is being administered to all citizens above one year of age at all local levels in Parsa and in six local levels in Bara: Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City, Jeetpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City, Parwanipur Rural Municipality, Prasauni Rural Municipality, Pheta Rural Municipality, and Bishrampur Rural Municipality, which share borders with Parsa.
The first phase of the campaign is set to conclude tomorrow. The Department has planned to continue it after the Tihar festival, depending on the need.
