Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed the government’s commitment to ending corruption, promoting good governance, and holding elections, emphasizing the need for support and cooperation from civil society. PM Karki conveyed these sentiments at a reception program organized by the Nepal Sambat Nhuda Preservation Society, celebrating the Nepal Sambat New Year 1146 at Basantapur.
According to National News Agency Nepal, PM Karki highlighted the government’s dedication to upholding mutual harmony and unity in society, maintaining democracy, and controlling corruption. She addressed the necessity of support from all political parties, civil society, and the Nepali people to accomplish these objectives, including holding the House of Representatives elections and providing a political solution for the country.
PM Karki assured that the government is fully committed to normalizing the situation following the Gen-Z movement and ensuring that elections are conducted in a fear-free environment on the scheduled date. She affirmed the government’s resolve to hold elections with participation from all Nepali citizens, as per the responsibilities of the civil government formed through the movement’s momentum.
The Prime Minister emphasized continuous dialogue with political parties and Gen-Z representatives, underscoring that prioritizing elections does not mean neglecting issues of corruption and good governance. She noted the government’s responsibility to address demands for good governance raised by the Gen-Z movement under the Constitution of Nepal and mentioned ongoing efforts within state mechanisms to achieve tangible results.
In a separate event in Patan, Lalitpur, PM Karki described the Nepal Sambat calendar as a symbol of Nepali pride, culture, and philanthropy. The program, organized by Manka Khalah Yala at Patan Mangalbazar, was supported by the Lalitpur Metropolitan City and various indigenous nationalities’ organizations of Patan. PM Karki committed to supporting the preservation and promotion of the Nepalbhasa language.
The Nepal Sambat New Year is being celebrated with enthusiasm through special programs across Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kathmandu, organized by various Newar communities. Festivities are also taking place in other towns and settlements nationwide, particularly where the Newar community is present.
