Nagdhunga Cooperative Faces Rs 50 Million Embezzlement Scandal.


PHALABAS: Around Rs 50 million has been embezzled from the Nagdhunga Saving and Credit Cooperative, which operates in Karkineta of Phalebas municipality-1. The embezzlement involves Rs 48 million in savings from local residents, primarily from rural areas.

According to National News Agency RSS, Cooperative Treasurer Dirgha Narayan Sharma has been apprehended following complaints from depositors about the misappropriation of their funds. However, two other key figures, Cooperative Chairperson Giri Narayan Shrestha and Manager Anil Bahadur KC, remain at large, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista, Chief of the District Police Office.

The Cooperative Registrar’s Office in Gandaki Province has identified 19 defendants in connection with the case. The cooperative reportedly serves approximately 650 depositors. Authorities have provided a one-year timeframe for the cooperative to address and resolve the issue.

The situation has left depositors in distress as they have yet to recover thei
r savings. Manager Anil Bahadur KC has been evading authorities for the past two months, while Chairperson Giri Narayan Shrestha has been absconding for several days.
