Minister Shahi Leaves for Azerbaijan to Attend COP29.


Kathmandu: Minister for Forest and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, has departed for Azerbaijan to participate in the 29th edition of the Conference of Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. This global event is being hosted in Baku from November 11-22.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Secretary Dr. Dipak Kumar Kharal and other officials are accompanying the delegation led by Minister Shahi. Key topics such as climate change adaptation, loss and damage, climate finance, technological development and transfer, and issues pertaining to least developed countries (LDC) are expected to be prominently discussed at COP29. The Ministry of Forest and Environment has prepared a comprehensive position paper outlining the impacts of climate change in Nepal, with a strong emphasis on mountain issues, loss and damage, and climate finance.

Nepal’s delegation to COP29 is notably led by President Ramchandra Paudel, marking the country’s largest participation in the event to date. Pr
esident Paudel is scheduled to deliver an address during the high-level inaugural session attended by world leaders. Additionally, he will conduct a separate high-level session on November 13.
