KATHMANDU: Vehicular movement has resumed in the Kamaladi area following the completion of a new culvert over the Ichchhumati (Tukucha) rivulet, replacing the one damaged during the August 7 flood. The newly constructed culvert was inaugurated by Keshav Kumar Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the flood had disrupted traffic in one of Kathmandu’s busiest areas, necessitating swift action by the Department of Roads. Ram Hari Pokharel, Director General of the Department, stated that the reconstruction was expedited to restore normalcy in the area. The Ministry had previously conducted a detailed study after a sinkhole appeared on the road, prompting the prohibition of vehicular movement due to safety concerns.
The Division Road Office in Kathmandu awarded the construction contract to DB Construction on September 4, with the project valued at Rs 4 million and 963 thousand. The timely completion of this project marks a significant
step in addressing infrastructure challenges in the region.
