Dhaka: Sharfuddoula Ibn Shaheed Saikat is set to earn US$2,000 per match in this year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), as stated by Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu, chairman of the BCB’s umpires committee.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sharfuddoula’s status as an ICC elite panel umpire accounts for his higher remuneration in the BPL compared to other umpires. Mithu highlighted that Sharfuddoula’s inclusion in the ICC Elite Panel Umpire’s list makes him the first Bangladeshi umpire to achieve this distinction, justifying his increased pay.
Sharfuddoula began his officiating duties in the BPL with the match between Chittagong Kings and Khulna Tigers last Thursday. He is scheduled to officiate six matches in total but will not be available for the BPL final due to his commitments in the upcoming India-England series.
In March, Sharfuddoula was named to the ICC Elite Panel, marking another milestone as he became the first from this panel to umpire a BPL match. Meanwhile, local BPL umpires are receiving Tk 50,000 per match, up from Tk 35,000 previously. International panel umpires have also seen their match fees rise from US$500 to US$600.
