Panchagar: Senior Secretary to the Home Ministry Nasimul Gani today announced that the police will soon begin working closely with citizens to foster cooperation and trust.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nasimul Gani expressed optimism that the police, currently operating under difficult conditions, will soon overcome these challenges. The government is focused on bolstering the mental resilience of police officers to enhance their role as public allies. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the beautification project at the Panchagar Railway Station.
The Home Secretary emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing misconduct within the police force. He noted that measures are being implemented to discipline officers involved in wrongdoing, while a broader reorganization of the force is underway. However, he acknowledged that this process will require time.
Nasimul Gani remarked on the unique approach of the government compared to other nations that have completely dismantled their forces post-revolution. He reiterated that despite past offenses committed under pressure, the police are being held accountable and are subject to necessary penalties.
The event was attended by several notable figures, including Sargis Alam, central coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement; Md Sabet Ali, the local Deputy Commissioner; Mizanur Rahman, Police Super; Advocate Adam Shafi, Public Prosecutor; Tawhidul Islam, Convenor of Poura BNP and former mayor; and Jamaat leader Nazim Uddin.
Earlier in the day, the Home Secretary officially launched the beautification initiative at the Panchagar Railway Station by cutting a ceremonial ribbon.
