Gazipur: China-based smart device brand UMIDIGI has officially commenced its operations in Bangladesh with the strategic vision of establishing the country as a production hub for regional distribution. The company has set up an assembling plant in the hi-tech park located in Gazipur, targeting the distribution of smartphones to neighboring countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Maldives in the near future.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Masukur Rahman, Sales and Operations Head of UMIDIGI Bangladesh, highlighted the company’s initial plans to transform Bangladesh into a regional distribution center for these four countries. “We’re running our operation to the four countries from Bangladesh and planned to send smartphones there from our plant here in the country,” Rahman stated. He further mentioned that in the current year, the company would focus on expanding its footprint within the Bangladesh market before shifting its attention to the regional market by 2026.
The local plant in Bangladesh boasts an impressive assembling capacity of over 10,000 smartphones daily, exceeding the demand for a single brand within the local market. Masukur Rahman also announced the unveiling of four new smartphones-UMIDIGI G9 5G, UMIDIGI G9C, UMIDIGI G9T, and UMIDIGI G9A-all produced at the local assembling plant. He expressed confidence that UMIDIGI would revolutionize the smartphone market with high-quality, high-spec devices at competitive prices.
Additionally, the brand plans to establish 12 service centers and 10 collection points across Bangladesh soon. UMIDIGI Bangladesh officials emphasized their commitment to contribute to the country’s manufacturing growth by assembling smartphones locally. The company is also dedicated to investing in both online and offline branding and marketing efforts.
The UMIDIGI G9 5G, powered by Android 14, features a 6.75-inch display, 12GB RAM (including 6GB virtual RAM), and 128GB of storage, along with a 5,000mAh battery supporting 20W fast charging. Meanwhile, the UMIDIGI G9C offers a 6.75-inch display, 6GB RAM, and 128GB of storage.
Zhou, Managing Director of UMIDIGI Bangladesh, teased more surprises for consumers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. At a recent ceremony, UMIDIGI announced plans to launch two additional smartphones, the UMIDIGI 100 Note and Note AI, before Eid-ul-Fitr.
