Farida Stresses Need for More Female Farmers in Poultry Sector


Dhaka: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter emphasized the importance of increasing the number of female farmers in the poultry industry during the inauguration ceremony of a three-day International Poultry Show and Seminar-2025. She highlighted the role of women in raising chickens in their homes, contributing substantially to one of the biggest private sectors in the country.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the Bangladesh unit of the World Poultry Science Association and the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre. Farida Akhter addressed the audience, underscoring the potential growth and opportunities within the poultry sector, especially with the advancements in poultry feed.



Farida Akhter also pointed out the importance of using harmless feed to ensure the safety of food consumed by people. She warned that harmful substances fed to poultry could end up in human diets, emphasizing the need for vigilance in feed quality.



The event was presided over by Moshiur Rahman, President of the Bangladesh unit of the World’s Poultry Science Association. Notable attendees included Md. Tofazzel Hossain, Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Director General (Acting) of the Department of Livestock, and Dr. Shakila Faruk, Director General of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute.



The fair, themed ‘Sustainable Poultry for Amazing Bangladesh’, showcases 825 stalls featuring technology and services from over 200 companies representing 27 countries.
