Prohibitory Orders Imposed in Phungling and Pathibhara Areas Over Cable Car Dispute

Taplejung: A prohibitory order has been enforced in Phungling Bazaar and the Pathibhara area of the Taplejung district. The District Administration Office in Taplejung issued the order effective from this morning due to a controversy surrounding the construction of a cable car in Pathibhara.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief District Officer Netra Prasad Sharma released a notification on Saturday night, stating that prohibitory orders have been enacted in the district headquarters of Phungling Bazaar and the surrounding Pathibhara areas. This decision follows unfavorable conditions resulting from clashes between opponents of the cable car project and police in Phungling market on Saturday evening.

Due to sensitive and adverse circumstances, the prohibitory order has been issued in accordance with Section 6 (3) (a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS. The restrictions are in effect from 5 am and will remain until further notice. They apply to Fungling Bazar area, extending to Dokhu Salleri in the east, Ghochonu and Thalangdhar in the west, Ukali Pani in the north, and Sherpa Toll, Veterinary Kanchenjunga Toll in the south.

In the Pathibhara area, restrictions are within 100 meters of the tourist police building on the east, Balu Danda area on the west, Cable Car Base Station on the north, and the new bus park under construction on the south under the Kaphlepati area. Gatherings of more than five people, along with assemblies, processions, demonstrations, and other activities, are prohibited in these zones.

The prohibition follows injuries sustained by individuals on both sides during a clash at the Phungling headquarters on Saturday evening over the cable car construction. A similar confrontation occurred last Thursday at the cable car construction site in Pathibhara, resulting in injuries to police, protesters, and 13 others.
