Kathmandu: The first meeting of the Steering Committee for the ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’ (Sagarmatha Dialogue) concluded here today under the chair of KP Sharma Oli. The event has been scheduled to take place on May 16-18.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, discussions covered event management, invitations to foreign guests and dignitaries, the participation of experts, the appointment of a goodwill ambassador, and cooperation with the private sector.
The Prime Minister expressed his hopes for support, cooperation, and participation from all quarters to ensure the event’s success. He emphasized the importance of flawless preparations for the Dialogue.
The Sagarmatha Dialogue Secretariat has been established at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. The Prime Minister chairs the Steering Committee, while Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba and Minister for Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri chair and co-chair the Management Committee, respectively.
Special invitations have been extended to the heads of state and government from neighboring countries, including India and China, to attend the event.
The Dialogue will focus on climate change, mountains, and the future of humanity. This marks the first time the government is hosting such an event.
On January 21, Prime Minister Oli announced the organization of the Sagarmatha Sambaad on the occasion of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation.
Sagarmatha Sambaad is a multi-stakeholder dialogue forum dedicated to discussing significant global, regional, and national issues. It aims to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds to influence and drive positive change.
