Kathmandu: Flights to and from Tribhuvan International Airport have been adversely affected due to low visibility caused by haze in Kathmandu. Chief and General Manager of Tribhuvan International Airport, Jagannath Niraula, stated that the thick fog enveloping the skies over Kathmandu in recent days has significantly decreased visibility, necessitating the use of Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) technology for aircraft landing and takeoff operations.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Niraula explained that flights are currently being operated using IFR technology due to the reduced visibility caused by the persistent haze. Although no flights have been canceled so far, Niraula mentioned that the current visibility at the airport stands at 3,000 meters.
The haze has led to the diversion of several flights. Specifically, three mountain flights operated by Buddha Air, along with one flight each from Yeti Airlines and Shree Airlines, were redirected to Bhairahawa and Janakpur.
