Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has highlighted the significant role played by former Indian Prime Minister Chandrashekhar in establishing democracy in Nepal. Speaking at an event organized by the Ganesh Man Singh Foundation, President Deuba emphasized Chandrashekhar’s efforts to support Nepal’s democratic movement, noting his influence extended beyond Nepal to India.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Deuba stated that Chandrashekhar’s involvement invigorated the democratic movement in Nepal, particularly upon his visit to the country. Deuba expressed Nepal’s enduring respect and harmony towards Chandrashekhar and acknowledged India’s goodwill towards Nepal’s republican system.
Deuba also pointed out Chandrashekhar’s warm and close relationships with prominent Nepali Congress leaders such as BP Koirala and Ganesh Man Singh. Highlighting the open borders between Nepal and India, he underscored the importance of maintaining strong bilateral relations and the close ties between the peoples of both nations.
