Building Just Society is True Respect to Republic, Says Speaker

Kathmandu: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has emphasized that building a prosperous, inclusive, and just Nepal, while being critical of corruption, inequality, and governance deficits, is a true homage to the republic. Speaker Ghimire conveyed this message to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of the 18th Republic Day.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Speaker Ghimire stated that the essence of the republic should transcend merely changing the constitutional structure and should evolve into a vibrant practice of serving public interest, good governance, transparency, and inclusiveness. He remarked that anti-republic activities observed in the democratic system not only undermine the constitution but also insult the martyrs. He urged all political parties and the Nepali people to unite against any inclination that undermines the dreams and sacrifices of the movement.

In his message, Speaker Ghimire emphasized the importance of Republic Day as a time for all Nepalis to dedicate themselves to the defense, promotion, and strengthening of the republic, and to resolve to contribute to the nation’s stability, development, and prosperity. Meanwhile, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal asserted that the regressive family regime could never be an alternative to the republic.

In his Republic Day message, Chairperson Dahal acknowledged the numerous challenges in honestly implementing the Constitution to institutionalize the federal democratic republic with a proportional inclusive system. He noted that the system should work towards bringing about changes in the lives of the people.

Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar, in her message of best wishes, highlighted that advancing a self-reliant economy is the prime agenda of the republic. Similarly, Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, Bimala Ghimire, in her Republic Day message, stressed that the Constitution should implement fundamental rights according to the people’s aspirations.
