Kathmandu: Opposition parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre), have decided to allow the government to present the economic survey and budget for the upcoming fiscal year in the Parliament today. This decision marks a momentary pause in their ongoing protest against the government.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the opposition parties had been obstructing the proceedings of the House of Representatives, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over a visit visa scandal. Despite their protests, the parties agreed to permit today’s House meeting to proceed.
At the commencement of the House of Representatives meeting, lawmakers from the opposition parties stood up in protest at their respective seats. Speaker Devraj Ghimire responded by allocating time for Hitraj Pandey, the Chief Whip of CPN (Maoist Centre), to address the assembly.
Pandey stated that while they have allowed the government to present the Economic Survey and budget, they intend to continue obstructing the House until their demands are met. In the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel is scheduled to present the Economic Survey.
A joint meeting of the Federal Parliament is scheduled for 3:00 pm today, during which the budget for the coming fiscal year will be presented.
