East-West Highway Blocked After Heavy Rainfall in Jhapa

Kathmandu: The East-West Highway has been completely obstructed after the incessant rainfall occurred since this morning swept away the diversion at Kalikhola of Mechinagar municipality-6 in Jhapa district. Information Officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa, Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, stated that the transport service has come to a standstill as the flood washed away the road diversion, which is under construction as part of the Asian Highway.

According to National News Agency Nepal, an alternative route has been brought into use following the road damages. Coordination is underway with concerned bodies for the construction of the road. Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has informed through SMS that heavy rain was recorded at many places in the Jhapa, Ilam, Sunsari, and Dhankuta districts.

The department has also requested the public to adopt high precautions until this afternoon due to the high possibility of floods in various rivers and streams, including Mechi, Ninda, Kankai, Mawa-Ratuwa, and Bakraha.
