Janakpurdham: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that the contract agreement with the contractor will be terminated if there is any delay in the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project. The statement was made during the foundation stone laying ceremony of 64 road projects in Madhes Province under the One Election Constituency: One Road Project.
According to National News Agency Nepal, PM Oli emphasized the urgency of completing the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project, highlighting that the residents of Madhes Province cannot afford to leave their land uncultivated. He stressed the importance of good governance and rapid development, noting that procrastination in project execution is more detrimental than corruption. The Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to expedite development efforts, warning that delays could increase project costs and negatively impact beneficiaries, ultimately obstructing the mission of development and prosperity.
The Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Project, once completed, is expected to irrigate 122,000 hectares of land across the districts of Rautahat, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, and Bara in Madhes Province. Additionally, it will generate 31.07 megawatts of electricity. The project, which is set to be constructed with an investment of Rs 49.42 billion, faced minor damages due to last year’s flooding and landslides affecting its headworks.
During the event, PM Oli reiterated the federal government’s commitment to the development of Madhes Province. He called for a focus on Chure conservation, modernization of agriculture, healthcare, education, youth-targeted programs, and other initiatives, all while ensuring quality in performance. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of good governance, stating that those who perform well will be rewarded, while wrongdoers will face consequences.
