Gandaki: Transport entrepreneurs, who had halted public transport services nationwide, have officially ended their protest activities. Following directives from the federal government, the Gandaki Province government decided to temporarily suspend its ride-sharing regulations for a month, which had initially sparked the protest.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the transport entrepreneurs had ceased public transportation services in response to the regulations introduced by the Gandaki Province government. An agreement was reached between the federal government and the transport entrepreneurs late Monday night. However, the transport entrepreneurs waited for the Gandaki provincial government to officially withdraw the regulations before calling off their strike.
As a consequence, despite the agreement, the general public experienced significant inconvenience due to the lack of available public transport. Bijay Swar, President of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, announced that the protest programs have been withdrawn, and public transport services have resumed.
The resolution came after multiple discussions between high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management, and the transport entrepreneurs on Monday. The agreement was communicated to the Gandaki Province government through the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Acting on the federal government’s recommendation, the Gandaki government agreed to suspend the regulations for a month.
