Locals Appeal to PM Oli for Preservation of Historic Sundhara and Dharahara

Kathmandu: Locals have urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to develop a plan to ensure the natural flow of water in Sundhara and to properly preserve the remnants of the old Dharahara. A delegation consisting of Kathmandu Metropolis-22 Chairperson Chinkaji Maharjan and CPN (UML) Kathmandu District Committee Secretary Rajesh Shakya, among others, visited the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar today. They expressed gratitude on behalf of the locals for the Prime Minister’s initiatives to construct a garden, numismatic and earthquake museum, as well as the largest underground parking facility in the Sundhara and Dharahara area.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the delegation informed Prime Minister Oli about the lack of resources and means to clear the garbage obstructing the underground drainage, which impedes the natural flow of water out of the Dharahara area. They voiced concerns that despite discussions with locals prioritizing the systematic development of the sewerage system and preservation of the old Dharahara remains, these suggestions were ignored by the relevant authorities.

Prime Minister Oli assured the delegation of federal government support for heritage preservation and emphasized the need for institutional efforts to preserve the heritages and cultures of the Kathmandu Metropolis.
