Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that the government is committed to finding a permanent solution to the ongoing irrigation challenges faced in the Tarai region.
According to National News Agency Nepal, PM Oli shared his thoughts on a social networking platform, expressing satisfaction with the progress of paddy plantation, which has reached 76.54 percent completion in eight districts of Madhes Province. He emphasized the government’s dedication to ending the region’s reliance on rainwater for irrigation starting next year.
The Prime Minister recently conducted an aerial survey of the drought-affected areas in Tarai and subsequently declared the region as a drought-hit zone. In response to the crisis, the government has implemented special relief and support measures.
PM Oli highlighted ongoing initiatives, stating, “Activities for the installation of 500 deep-boring had been started for the time being. The construction of Sunkoshi-Marin diversion has been forwarded for a long-term solution.” He also noted the recent rainfall in Tarai-Madhes, which has aided the paddy plantation efforts. The Prime Minister expressed optimism that the remaining areas will be planted soon.
