Probe Committee Formed to Investigate Inmate’s Death During Treatment

Birgunj: The District Administration Office, Parsa has established an investigation committee to probe the death of inmate Rahul Sah Tarah, who died while receiving treatment at Narayani Hospital on Tuesday.

According to National News Agency Nepal, a meeting of stakeholders, chaired by Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal, led to the formation of a probe panel. The committee, coordinated by Assistant Chief District Officer Babulal Regmi, has been given a 15-day period to conduct the investigation and submit its report.

The probe team includes several key members such as Deputy Superintendent and Information Officer at the District Police Office Kishor Lamsal, people’s representative Jagdish Sah Turah, the deceased inmate’s brother Makesh Sah Turah, human rights activist Man Kumari Lama, FNJ Chairperson in the district Om Prakash Khanal, and a representative from the Nepal Medical Association.

The stakeholders’ meeting also concluded with a decision to proceed with other legal procedures, including conducting a postmortem of the deceased inmate’s body.

Rahul Sah Tarah was serving a three-year jail term for a murder case at Birgunj prison. Prison chief Khimraj Bhusal reported that Tarah was rushed to Narayani Hospital for treatment following complaints of severe chest pain early Tuesday morning. However, the inmate’s relatives have accused the Chief District Officer of preventing the hospital from referring Tarah to a more advanced health facility.

In response to the inmate’s death, his relatives staged a protest by burning tires at the hospital gate.
