Kathmandu: The meeting today of the Public Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives has been postponed after failing to meet the required quorum.
According to National News Agency Nepal, only 12 lawmakers turned up for the meeting that required at least 51 percent of the members to fulfill the requirement for a meeting. The PAC has 26 members.
The PAC was scheduled to discuss a complaint filed with the committee regarding the load-carrying capacity of trucks. The Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs’ Federation had filed a complaint with the committee alleging that the existing legal provisions regarding the load-carrying capacity of freight vehicles were not being implemented and regulated.
The complaint alleged that the condition of bridges and roads had deteriorated and the risk of road accidents had increased due to the operation of vehicles carrying weights contrary to the standards set by the Freight Vehicle Load-Carrying Directive, 2074 BS.
