Time to Broaden Tax Base to Meet Revenue Target

Kathmandu: Executive Director of the Nepal Administrative Staff College (NASC) and Former Secretary at the Finance Ministry, Ram Sharan Pudasaini, emphasized the necessity of broadening the tax base without imposing additional burdens on existing taxpayers. He highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional capacity for effective compliance and enforcement, particularly at sub-national government levels.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Pudasaini shared these insights during the Friday Management Talk Programme (FMTP) on ‘Enhancing Revenue Collection and Mobilization: Prospects, Challenges, and Way Forward’. The event was organized by the Management Association of Nepal in Kathmandu. He stressed the alignment of revenue mobilization strategies with national development priorities and sustainable growth.

The Friday Management Talk Programme was coordinated by the Secretary General of the Management Association of Nepal and Coordinator of FMTP, Indra Kumar Shrestha. The event brought together policymakers, economists, academicians, researchers, private sector representatives, and media professionals.

Shrestha informed RSS that the FMTP aims to create a dynamic forum for exchanging ideas and best practices in public finance management. It is also expected to serve as a platform for dialogue, capacity building, and policy insights to support the nation’s socio-economic development. Shrestha further noted the significance of public finance management as the country practices federalism with its three-tier government system.
