Newly Appointed Inspector General of Police Khapung Receives Insignia at Ceremony


Kathmandu: Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandra Kuber Khapung was presented with the insignia of his rank during a formal ceremony at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Singha Durbar. The insignia was conferred by Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadee.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Home Secretary emphasized that Khapung’s promotion to the highest post in Nepal Police was based on his professional efficiency, competence, and seniority. He lauded IGP Khapung’s contributions to maintaining peace and order, controlling crime, and promoting social justice in the country.



The Home Secretary remarked, ‘It is our collective responsibility to ensure that citizens feel secure.’ He highlighted the effectiveness of the police service when officers stay close to citizens, experiencing their joys and sorrows. Wishing the new IGP success, he stressed the importance of upholding the morale of police personnel and achieving the goals of Nepal Police.



Acknowledging the challenges in law enforcement, Duwadee noted the emergence of a new wave of crimes, underscoring the urgency to establish justice by curbing all forms of crime.



In his address, IGP Khapung expressed his commitment to the institution and society, stating, ‘I will do everything I can to serve the organization positively and will never act in a way that harms it.’ He highlighted organizational reform and the welfare of police personnel as his top priorities.



IGP Khapung also addressed the need for strengthening the police force’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, cybercrime control, and tackling issues related to cryptocurrency. Recalling his journey from a remote village in Tehrathum to becoming the chief of Nepal Police, he emphasized the importance of equipping the force with advanced technology and resources to meet current and future challenges effectively.
