Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) has announced an expansion of the curfew areas in response to ongoing demonstrations led by ‘Gen Z’ groups. The curfew, which took effect today at 12:30 pm, aims to curb the unrest and maintain public order.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the DAO’s second notice detailed the new areas under curfew, which now include significant locations such as Shital Niwas, the Office of the President. The restricted area extends from the northeastern side of the Maharajgunj area to the Chowk at the Nepal Police Training Academy, and towards the southeast, it covers the route from the intersection heading towards Samakhusi up to the Samakhusi River.
In the Lainchaur area, the curfew encompasses the stretch from Keshar Mahal Chowk to Lainchaur Chowk, reaching the boundary of Hotel Malla, which includes the Harit Griha/Green House Area, housing the Office of the Vice President. Additionally, the Narayanhiti Palace Museum area is under curfew, spanning from Keshar Mahal Chowk to various points including Jai Nepal Hall Chowk and Mahendra Statue.
The Singha Durbar region is also impacted, with prohibitory orders in effect from the eastern corner of Bhadrakali Temple eastward to the main entrance of Singha Durbar, and extending to various nearby intersections, involving the Office of the Auditor General and reaching the Department of Archaeology.
The curfew, enforced under Clause 6 (A) of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS, will remain in place until 10:00 pm today. All movements, gatherings, demonstrations, rallies, meetings, and picketing are strictly prohibited within the specified areas, as the authorities aim to prevent further anarchy and ensure public safety.
