Kathmandu: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the escaped inmates, who fled the jail during the Gen-Z Revolt, to return to the jail, and has asked other individuals to submit the captured weapons to the administration.
According to National News Agency Nepal, NHRC Spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokharel issued a press statement urging the escaped inmates and individuals who fled from juvenile reform centers to return to the jails and reform houses, respectively.
The Commission has called on the local community to support the administration in their ongoing search efforts for the escapees and to help maintain law and order. The NHRC appealed to the public to immediately inform police offices if they have information about escaped inmates or juveniles in their neighborhood.
Furthermore, the NHRC has urged the return of weapons seized from police during the recent Gen-Z revolt, emphasizing that misuse of such weapons or uniforms is unlawful. The NHRC stated that “the misuse of weapons and uniforms belonging to the security personnel is not only illegal but also preventing such illegal acts is the responsibility of every responsible citizen.”
Pokharel also mentioned that the NHRC has received reports of fear and insecurity in society due to the escaped inmates following the Gen-Z revolt on September 8 and 9 in various parts of the country.
The NHRC is closely monitoring potential security threats arising from these incidents, as noted in the press statement.
According to NHRC, the escaped inmates have caused psychological impacts on women, children, decision-makers, victims, and their families.
