Over 8,800 Inmates Still Absconding Following Gen-Z Protest


Kathmandu: Inmates from 27 jails across the country escaped during the Gen-Z protest on September 8 and 9. Similarly, children from nine Juvenile Correction Centres were also found to have escaped. Director of the Department of Prison Management, Chomendra Neupane, said out of a total of 29,212 inmates, 13,591 inmates and 964 children, out of 1,422, had escaped.



According to National News Agency Nepal, 5,495 inmates have returned to prisons and 244 children to Juvenile Correction Centres so far. The search for the remaining 8,816 prisoners is underway, as confirmed by the Department of Prison Management.
