Kathmandu: Newly-appointed Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has announced that the government will focus on holding elections on the scheduled date of March 5 next year, tackling corruption, and accelerating reconstruction efforts. After taking office at the ministry in Singha Durbar, Minister Kharel emphasized the interim government’s commitment to making citizens feel a tangible change.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel highlighted that the current government is built on the foundation laid by the sacrifices of Gen Z protests. He vowed to uphold the principles of good governance and corruption control, aiming to fulfill the expectations of Gen Z and the general populace. He acknowledged the complexity and challenges associated with fulfilling these mandates, stating that physical reconstruction alone is insufficient to heal the psychological scars left on the people. Kharel stressed the importance of reaching out to citizens in remote areas to address their needs effectively.
Minister Kharel also identified the necessity of ensuring good governance, economic prosperity, and access to fundamental rights such as employment, education, and healthcare to provide relief to the populace. He assured ministry employees of his non-interference in their duties, encouraging them to work autonomously for optimal performance.
The minister called for support and collaboration from all sectors to achieve results during the interim government’s tenure. He acknowledged the limited timeframe but expressed optimism about laying the groundwork for hope and progress. Emphasizing the importance of cooperation, Kharel anticipated contributions from ministry employees and experts to achieve these goals.
Furthermore, Minister Kharel committed to aligning his work with the artificial intelligence policy and digital framework, reinforcing the government’s focus on technological advancement and modernization.
