Kanchanpur: People from the Raute community are disappointed after they did not receive their social security allowance even for the Dashain festival. They have not received the allowance since the beginning of the current fiscal year.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Bud Singh Raute of Bhimdutta Municipality-9 expressed his unhappiness over being deprived of the allowance during Dashain, the biggest festival. He explained that the main source of income for his family is the government-provided allowance, which enables them to buy essential goods like food grains and cooking oil. Bud Singh and his wife used to receive Rs 24,000, which they utilized for festival celebrations, but this year, they did not receive the stipend.
The government relocated the Raute community from the jungle to villages, and as a result, they lack access to timber for producing wooden objects. Kiri Devi Raute mentioned that they could sell wooden pots if they were still in the jungle. She revealed that one of her sons has gone to India to earn money, working there for nine months and spending three months at home. The family struggles to manage their expenses with his income.
In this context, the Chairperson of Bhimdutta Municipality-9, Gagan Singh Karki, acknowledged that the local level was not provided with the social security allowance entitled to the Raute community this year. Previously, the allowance was renewed within the month of Bhandra and distributed before Dashain. Karki added that 20 Rautes from this ward usually receive the allowance, with all members of the community entitled to it every month.
