Kathmandu: Four newly appointed ministers in the interim government led by Sushila Karki took oath of office and secrecy before President Ramchandra Paudel amidst a special ceremony held at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas today. Anil Kumar Sinha, Mahabir Pun, Madan Kumar Pariyar, and Jagdish Kharel have assumed key ministerial roles as the government continues its preparations for the upcoming election.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Anil Kumar Sinha was administered the oath of office as Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies. He will also oversee the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs as well as the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation. Mahabir Pun has been appointed the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, while Madan Kumar Pariyar will serve as the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development.
Jagdish Kharel, who has been involved in broadcast journalism for over two decades, took the oath as the Minister for Communication and Information Technology. President Paudel administered the oath to the new ministers. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Karki, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Narayana Prasad Dahal, chiefs of constitutional bodies, senior government officials, and security agency representatives.
The President appointed the new ministers on the recommendation of Prime Minister Karki. Minister Sinha is a former Supreme Court judge. Mahabir Pun, a recipient of the Magsaysay Award in 2007, is recognized for extending wireless internet services to remote areas of Nepal and currently serves as the Chief of the National Innovation Center. Madan Kumar Pariyar is an agricultural expert.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki, appointed as the 42nd and first female Prime Minister of Nepal by President Paudel on September 12, following Gen-Z demonstrations that led to the toppling of the KP Sharma Oli-led government, continues to shape her interim cabinet. On September 15, she inducted Rameshwor Khanal as Minister for Finance, Kulman Ghising for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, and Om Prakash Aryal for Home Affairs. The Prime Minister currently manages the responsibilities of the remaining ministries.
This interim government is mandated to conduct the election of the House of Representatives on March 5, 2026.
