NC General Secretaries Insist on Change of Guard

Kathmandu: As media reports surface suggesting that supporters of Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba are hesitant about a leadership transition due to prevailing adverse conditions, the party’s General Secretaries have ramped up their efforts to advocate for a change in leadership.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Party President Deuba, who was significantly injured during the Gen-Z protest, is currently receiving medical treatment and has remained silent on the demands by young leaders for a leadership change. Despite this, the anti-incumbency drive has gathered momentum, with active engagement from the two General Secretaries, Bishwo Prakash Sharma and Gagan Thapa.

Secretary Sharma has advised the elderly leader Deuba to embrace the spirit and message of the Gen-Z protest, which had a profound impact on the nation and led to the downfall of the government supported by the Nepali Congress. During a program organized in Dhulabari, Sharma emphasized the necessity for the party to undergo a transformation promptly. He asserted, “Time changes, so all-leaders and bureaucrats-need to change. Not only Singh Durbar, but all ward levels and commoners need change,” adding a warning that those who fail to adapt will be replaced.

The Gen-Z protest has highlighted the urgent need for stringent measures against corruption and the cultivation of a higher level of awareness for democratic values. Sharma called for investigations into incidents of arson, indiscriminate firing, and torching during the protests, urging that legal actions be taken accordingly.

In addition, Sharma inspected the damage to his private residence and the party office, which were affected by arson and vandalism during the protests.
