EU Ambassador Meets Nepal’s Energy Minister Ghising for Strategic Talks


Kathmandu: Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, has today paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising, who also looks after the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Urban Development.



According to National News Agency RSS, the meeting took place at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation at Singha Durbar. Ambassador Lorenzo extended congratulations to Minister Ghising on behalf of the European Union, wishing him a successful tenure.



The discussions during the meeting focused on various areas including Nepal’s energy sector, projects of strategic importance, transformative reservoir hydropower projects, green energy, energy security and efficiency, and additional assistance in the energy sector. These topics highlight the strategic interests and potential collaboration areas between the EU and Nepal.



Minister Ghising emphasized that the government’s priorities, post-Gen-Z demonstration, are not only to rebuild physical structures damaged during the protests but also to focus on good governance, advancing development projects, maintaining inter-ministerial coordination, and ensuring the electricity market through policy and legal reforms.



Furthermore, Minister Ghising expressed gratitude to the EU for its support to Nepal’s development and urged for additional assistance, particularly in mobilizing the necessary funds for the 670-Megawatt Dudhkoshi reservoir project. He highlighted the importance of improving the transmission and distribution system of this priority project.



Ambassador Lorenzo assured that the EU is always ready to extend further support and collaboration in Nepal’s energy sector, reinforcing the strong partnership between the European Union and Nepal in achieving mutual energy goals.
