Kathmandu: The government has endorsed the national report on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and will submit it to the UN Human Rights Council through the Foreign Ministry. Additionally, the Cabinet has sanctioned the visits of the Finance Minister and Finance Secretary to attend the joint meeting of the World Bank Groups and the International Monetary Fund in the US.
According to National News Agency RSS, the decisions were disclosed by Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, during a press conference. The Cabinet also ratified the ‘Nepal Government (Work Division- 3rd Amendment) Regulation, 2082’, reassigning significant departments to respective ministries. Consequently, the Revenue Investigation Department and the Money Laundering Investigation Department now fall under the Finance Ministry, while the National Investigation Department is under the Home Ministry.
The government agreed to accept 4.19 million US dollars from the UN Capital Development Fund for a local climate adaptive livelihood programme. Furthermore, 8.7 million US dollars will be granted by the UN FAO for a climate-resilient transformation project in paddy crops and food systems.
The term for a study team led by former secretary Ramu Prasad Dotel has been extended by 45 days. This team is tasked with reviewing the remuneration and incentives for officials and employees in government-run bodies and providing recommendations for standardization.
A new license requirement has been instituted for buying and selling land and houses valued over Rs 30 million in metropolitan and sub-metropolitan areas. Online media can now register with the Department of Information and Broadcasting.
Janak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General at the Inland Revenue Department, has been temporarily appointed as Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority. The government also announced the formation of several committees under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, including political, economic, infrastructure, administration, legislation, and social committees. Additionally, promotions have been made within the civil service and the Nepali Army.
