Japanese Envoy Meets Minister Ghising to Discuss Bilateral Projects


Kathmandu: Japan’s ambassador to Nepal, Maeda Toru, today called on Minister for Energy, Resources and Irrigation and the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport as well as the Minister for Urban Development, Kulman Ghising. During the meeting held at the Singha Durbar-based Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Japanese ambassador expressed his wishes for a successful term for Minister Ghising.



According to National News Agency RSS, the two officials exchanged views on Japan’s bilateral assistance to Nepal, which includes grants, loans, and technical support. They discussed the implementation of projects supported by the government of Japan, which remains a major development partner for Nepal’s socio-economic advancement.



The conversation also covered topics such as additional support required for the construction of the Nagdhunga Tunnel and the reconstruction of the BP Highway. Discussions extended to support for the 140-megawatt Tanahu Hydropower Project, improvements at Koteshwor Chowk, and progress on electricity transmission and distribution system upgrades.



Minister Ghising highlighted Japan’s significant contributions to Nepal’s priority sectors and expressed hope for continued Japanese support in potential projects like the 670-megawatt Dudhkoshi and the 1,200-megawatt Budhigandaki reservoir hydropower projects. He also mentioned infrastructure development initiatives and the preparation of a long-term urban management master plan for the Kathmandu Valley.



The ambassador assured that the Government of Japan is ready to support large-scale projects of strategic importance in Nepal, reinforcing the strong bilateral relations between the two nations.
