Kathmandu: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has emphasized the importance of political unity as a crucial strategy to overcome the current challenges faced by the nation. Speaking at an interaction on ‘Aftermath of Gen-Z protests’ held in the federal capital, she highlighted the necessity for coordination and cooperation among political parties, regardless of their diverse ideologies, to address the pressing issues confronting the country. Bhandari underscored the need to lift the nation out of its present difficulties.
According to National News Agency RSS, during the program, CPN (UML) Vice Chair Yubaraj Gyawali echoed the former President’s sentiments, emphasizing that national unity is essential during critical times. He called upon all political parties to actively participate in the upcoming elections. Additionally, Umesh Jung Rayamajhi, a central member of the Nepali Congress, announced that his party plans to initiate a campaign focused on maintaining a clean party organization.
Furthermore, former Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kanth Uprety expressed his belief that adopting a fully proportional electoral system could be instrumental in eliminating political bickering and ensuring stability. Prof Dr Khadga KC, Rector of Tribhuvan University, stated that this is an opportune moment for political parties to engage in serious introspection.
Deviram Sharma, the former Head of the National Investigation Department, emphasized the importance of boosting the morale of the police force in the lead-up to the elections. Journalist Kanak Mani Dixit highlighted the necessity of conducting fair investigations into the Gen-Z protests to prevent impunity. Meanwhile, journalist Dev Prakash Tripathi asserted that achieving an all-party consensus is the only viable solution to provide a political outlet for the country.
