Kathmandu: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall, expected to last for 12 hours, beginning at 8:00 pm today and continuing until 8:00 am tomorrow. In light of this forecast, the department has urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks associated with the heavy downpour.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and for Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, conducted a meeting with relevant authorities to assess the monsoon situation and review ongoing preparations. During the meeting, Department Director General Kamal Ram Joshi highlighted that the provinces of Bagmati, Madhesh, Gandaki, and Lumbini are expected to experience very heavy rain during this period.
Director General Joshi specifically advised residents living near rivers in the affected provinces to exercise increased caution due to potential disaster risks. He noted that rainfall in these areas could exceed 200 millimeters between 10:00 pm tonight and 2:00 am Sunday, prompting an advisory for residents to avoid unnecessary travel during these critical hours.
The current weather patterns in Nepal are heavily influenced by monsoon winds, contributing to the anticipated heavy rainfall.
