Kathmandu: A team led by UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer met with Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for Nepal Kyoko Yokosuka and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Representative to Nepal, Jaco du Toit were also present during the meeting at the Ministry in Singha Durbar. Minister Kharel expressed gratitude for the UN’s support to the government of Nepal.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel stated that the current government has received support from various sectors. He mentioned that preparations are underway to ensure the upcoming House of Representatives elections are conducted impartially and without fear. The government anticipates positive support from development partners, including the UN, to ensure the success of the elections. He also acknowledged the UN’s assistance in disaster management.
Discussions during the meeting focused on potential collaboration between the Nepalese government and the UNDP in digital transformation, media literacy promotion, and good governance reforms. UNDP Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer commended the government’s coordination and responsiveness during disasters. She affirmed the UN’s commitment to providing support to ensure the elections are conducted fairly and successfully.
