Minister Kharel Urges Media to Foster Supportive Atmosphere for 2026 Elections


Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has urged the media to create an environment conducive to the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. During a meeting with editors and representatives from various media outlets at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Monday, Minister Kharel called for support from the media sector to ensure the timely holding of elections, emphasizing that the government was fully prepared for the electoral process.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel reassured that the elections would proceed as scheduled. He urged media professionals to foster a favorable climate for the elections, asserting that there was no alternative to holding polls for the country’s progress. He expressed confidence that political parties were equally committed to the electoral process.



Minister Kharel also called on political parties to act responsibly in creating a conducive environment for elections, indicating that the government would provide support in managerial aspects. He highlighted that the primary responsibility of the current government was to promote good governance and carry out reconstruction of physical infrastructures following the successful completion of the elections.



He further mentioned that the government formed in the wake of the Gen-Z protests has garnered support from both national and international communities. Participants in the discussion suggested that the government should intensify dialogues with political parties to ensure a rule-based system through the elections.
