Pokhara: The Gandaki Province Assembly has not convened for over a month following the destruction of its assembly building during a Gen-Z protest. The last meeting occurred on September 1, and subsequent attempts to hold meetings have been unsuccessful. It remains unclear when the assembly will meet again.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the assembly meeting was initially scheduled for September 10. However, demonstrators vandalized and set fire to the assembly building on September 9. Efforts were made to relocate the meeting to the hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Cooperatives last Wednesday, but this meeting also failed to take place.
Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital has announced that the assembly meeting is postponed until further notice, with plans to convene immediately after the Tihar festival. Preparations are underway to ensure the meeting can occur, focusing on both managerial and technical aspects.
The delay in the assembly’s meetings is affecting the legislative process, with important bills on marijuana and mines and minerals awaiting discussion and approval.
