Kathmandu: Speaker Devraj Ghimire today held discussions and consultations with various political parties in regard to contemporary political developments. In the meeting held at the Speaker’s Office in Singha Durbar, political parties expressed their views on behalf of their respective sides.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Speaker Ghimire emphasized the crucial role of political parties in the protection of the Constitution and the promotion of democracy, expressing his expectation for cooperation from all political entities in this regard.
Following the meeting, Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress in the dissolved House of Representatives, addressed the media, reiterating that the Congress, as a democratic party, would not shy away from the election. He stated, “The Supreme Court is the final venue for defining the constitutionality of the dissolution of the House of Representatives. In the present context, we will not move back from the election.”
Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, CPN (UML) Chief Whip in the dissolved parliament, mentioned that a writ challenging the parliament dissolution has already been filed in the Supreme Court, expressing his hope that the court would address the issue accordingly. He noted that the party believes the restoration of the parliament would be a way to ‘streamline’ politics.
CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Rajendra Prasad Pandey indicated that the party would participate in the election if the government ensures a conducive atmosphere for it. The meeting was attended by the chief whips and whips of most political parties represented in the dissolved House of Representatives.
