Kathmandu: Minister for Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has stressed the need for completing the construction of the federal Parliament building located in the Singha Durbar complex on schedule. During a site visit today, he instructed the contractor to establish a daily work plan for the ongoing construction. Minister Ghising stated that the contractor has pledged to finalize the construction by the 16th of Poush (December 31) after extending the deadline for the fifth time, emphasizing the importance of diligently working to meet this deadline.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Federal Parliament building in New Baneshwar suffered damage during the recent Gen-Z protest, complicating the scheduling of National Assembly meetings. Minister Ghising highlighted the necessity of holding National Assembly meetings and the importance of convening the House of Representatives following the upcoming elections. He noted that restoring the damaged Parliament building for meetings would take time, underscoring the urgency of completing the new Parliament building as quickly as possible.
During the update, a representative from the contractor reported that 87 percent of the construction is complete, with finishing touches being applied inside the building. The contractor mentioned delays due to the need to import certain construction materials but reassured their commitment to finishing the remaining work by the scheduled date of December 31. The new Parliament building is being constructed within the Singha Durbar complex, spanning an area of 157 ropanis.
