Mugu: Five foreign climbers, including four Austrians and one German, have successfully made the first recorded ascent of Mt Koiki. The peak, located in Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality-2 in Mugu district, stands at 6,169 meters above sea level.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the climbers reached the summit on October 20. The expedition was managed by the Region Trek Company and comprised Erwin Paul Weissmann, Valentin Mak, Sandro Franz Kanduth, Gregor Pribernig from Austria, and Stefan Lib Lind from Germany.
The successful ascent has brought excitement to the local community, fostering hopes of attracting more expedition teams and tourists. Karma Tamang, a former chairman of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality-2, mentioned that this achievement could open new tourism opportunities. He emphasized the need for government and stakeholders to focus on promoting the region.
Sandro Franz Kanduth, one of the climbers from Austria, described the expedition as special, noting the pristine condition of the mountain. He highlighted the absence of waste and the refreshing air, expressing his appreciation for the natural environment.
The expedition was organized by Austria’s Trial Angels Company.
